We have some fantastic news for the people of Newton Aycliffe!

Working in partnership with Great Aycliffe Town Council, MISSEDABEAT has successfully installed three new community defibrillators across the town, helping to make our community even safer.

Each location also includes a Bleed Control Kit housed within the defibrillator cabinet, giving members of the public access to equipment that could help save the life of someone suffering a catastrophic bleed, as well as someone experiencing a cardiac arrest.

❤️ ST. OSWALD'S HOUSE

Our first installation is at St. Oswald's House, located just outside St. Oswald's Park. While the park itself isn't open 24 hours a day, this new community defibrillator is available 24/7, ensuring lifesaving equipment is always accessible to the public.

A huge thank you goes to Stephen Patterson, owner and manager of St. Oswald's House, for allowing us to install one of our bespoke defibrillator stands outside the home.

Stephen has also taken on the important role of Defibrillator Guardian. Although the device only needs regular checks to ensure it remains emergency-ready, Stephen is so committed that he checks it every single day. That level of dedication gives everyone confidence that, if it's ever needed, it will be ready to save a life.

We were delighted to officially unveil the defibrillator alongside Stephen, some of the wonderful residents of St. Oswald's House and the Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Neil Collinson.

🏛️ A MAYOR WITH A PERSONAL STORY

Neil's support for this project is incredibly meaningful.

Before becoming Mayor, Neil became unwell and visited his doctor. Following a series of tests, doctors became concerned that he may have suffered, or was experiencing, a heart attack. After further investigations and treatment in hospital, Neil later had an implantable defibrillator (ICD) fitted.

Having experienced first-hand how important rapid cardiac care can be, Neil understands just how vital it is for our communities to have access to lifesaving equipment. As Mayor of Great Aycliffe, he is a fantastic advocate for ensuring Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas have as many publicly accessible defibrillators as possible.

⛳ NEWTON AYCLIFFE SPORTS COMPLEX

Our second installation is at Newton Aycliffe Sports Complex, opposite the golf shop.

Great Aycliffe Town Council were keen to ensure there was a community defibrillator that golfers, visitors and members of the public could easily locate while also being accessible outside the complex itself.

🌳 STEVENSON WAY CEMETERY

The third installation is at Stevenson Way Cemetery, providing another vital 24/7 community defibrillator for local residents and visitors.

Within just one week of being installed, this defibrillator was activated during a medical emergency, highlighting just how important these devices are within our communities.

Following the activation, Mark from MISSEDABEAT Services carried out a full inspection of the defibrillator, ensuring it was cleaned, checked, returned to The Circuit and confirmed as emergency-ready once again.

While carrying out these checks, it was also great to see Andy and Eddie at the cemetery carrying out their own routine inspections and maintenance. It's fantastic to see people taking such pride in the facilities they look after.

👏 A MASSIVE TEAM EFFORT

Projects like these don't happen without fantastic people working together.

A massive thank you to Great Aycliffe Town Council for supporting this project.

Special thanks also go to Kelton Johnson and Charlie McCarthy from Johnson Electrical Contractors (JEC), who carried out the installation at St. Oswald's House in partnership with Ben Simpson from Sparkwise.

Ben is a massive supporter and advocate of MISSEDABEAT and is actively involved in so many of the projects we deliver. His continued support, advice and willingness to help wherever he can is greatly appreciated.

I'd also like to give a special shout-out to Jakey from Great Aycliffe Town Council, who carried out the electrical work for the installations at Newton Aycliffe Sports Complex and Stevenson Way Cemetery. Thank you for helping bring these important community projects to life.

❤️ IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT INSTALLING DEFIBRILLATORS

Installing new community defibrillators is only part of the job. Keeping them emergency-ready is just as important.

Mark from MISSEDABEAT Services will continue working to identify community defibrillators that have unfortunately fallen off The Circuit, are no longer being regularly maintained or require support to return them to emergency-ready status.

Over the coming months, he'll be reaching out to current guardians, site owners and, where possible, the original installers to offer support and help get these lifesaving devices back onto The Circuit.

Unfortunately, guardians move on, staff change roles, businesses change ownership and the people involved in the original installation aren't always there years later. When that happens, responsibility can unintentionally be lost, and defibrillators can stop being checked, pads and batteries can expire, and devices can disappear from The Circuit.

A defibrillator only saves lives if it's working, maintained and registered. It's not enough to simply see a cabinet on a wall with a defibrillator inside and assume everything is ready to use. It must be checked, maintained and registered so that, when someone dials 999, the ambulance service can direct them to a device that is ready to save a life.

That's exactly what MISSEDABEAT and MISSEDABEAT Services are committed to doing—not only installing new community defibrillators and Bleed Control Kits, but ensuring they remain available and emergency-ready for years to come.

❤️ THANK YOU❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to support MISSEDABEAT. Every installation, every inspection and every partnership helps make Newton Aycliffe a safer place to live, work and visit.

Together, we're not just installing lifesaving equipment... we're making sure it's there and ready when it matters most. ❤️
