On Monday, David Robinson joined Mark Preston from MISSEDABEAT ❤️💙 alongside Gary Philipson from BBC Radio Tees to discuss David’s cardiac arrest and the importance of community defibrillators being available when needed most.
Hearing David speak about what happened on that day was incredibly powerful. At just 21 years old, David suffered a sudden cardiac arrest whilst on holiday in Wales. Thankfully, due to the quick actions of his fiancée Justyce starting CPR immediately, alongside the use of a defibrillator and the incredible response from the emergency services, David survived ❤️💙
David’s story highlights that cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any age, without warning.

During the interview, MISSEDABEAT ❤️💙 also shared growing concerns around the number of community defibrillators currently unavailable due to poor maintenance, expired pads, flat batteries or devices not being properly registered on The Circuit.
Sadly, during recent checks carried out around Bishop Auckland, we found more than 30% of devices unavailable for public use. Nationally, over 10% of community defibrillators are unavailable during emergencies.
A defibrillator on a wall does not always mean it is emergency-ready.
⚠️ Pads have expiry dates.
⚠️ Batteries need replacing.
⚠️ Devices must be checked regularly.
⚠️ Community devices should be registered correctly so emergency services can direct members of the public to them immediately.
MISSEDABEAT ❤️💙 continues to work across communities supporting installations, carrying out checks and helping ensure lifesaving equipment remains rescue ready 24/7.
Thank you to Gary Philipson and BBC Radio Tees for helping raise awareness around such an important issue and for giving David the opportunity to share his story ❤️💙
