Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting the Royal British Legion to carry out an inspection of their portable defibrillator and spend some time with Ken Robinson.
During the inspection, we identified that the defibrillator required a new set of replacement pads, which MISSEDABEAT was pleased to donate to ensure the device remains fully operational and ready should it ever be needed. We also found that the defibrillator did not have a hygiene kit available, so we donated one of these too, helping to ensure the equipment remains complete and compliant.
The Royal British Legion regularly takes members away on coach trips and outings, with many passengers being elderly, so having a portable defibrillator available provides valuable reassurance for both organisers and those travelling.
It was great to catch up with Ken Robinson, who many people will know through his years of dedication to the local community, including serving as Mayor of Great Aycliffe. Ken has always been passionate about supporting local organisations, community groups and initiatives that make a real difference to people's lives.

Ken said:
"This is a fantastic group and it's a fantastic thing you're doing for us. We take an awful lot of elderly people away on breaks on a bus, and we're always concerned in case something happens whilst we're travelling between Aycliffe and our destination. It's a fantastic thing that MISSEDABEAT is doing for us. It's very kind of them to come along tonight and do this."
Whilst at the Legion, I was also presented with the charity collection box that is kept on the bar. The funds raised through this collection box help ensure that the defibrillator remains emergency ready by supporting the ongoing replacement of consumables such as pads and other essential equipment.
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made a donation. Whether it's a penny or a pound, every contribution makes a difference and helps support the local community. Your generosity helps ensure that life-saving equipment remains available and ready should it ever be needed.
At MISSEDABEAT, we know that installing a defibrillator is only the beginning. Regular inspections, replacing consumables before they expire and ensuring all supporting equipment is present are just as important. A defibrillator can only save a life if it is maintained correctly and ready to use when an emergency happens.
A huge thank you to Ken and everyone at the Royal British Legion for the warm welcome, their continued support of MISSEDABEAT and their commitment to keeping their members and the wider community safe.
