I was delighted to be invited to lead the first session of the DurhamWorks Sports Programme, delivering an inspiring and potentially life-saving awareness session on behalf of MISSEDABEATĀ charity. š
When the group of teenagers first arrived, they were quiet and reserved, with very little interaction. However, as the session went on, their confidence grew enormously. I shared with them how the charity began, and we discussed the importance of having defibrillators pitch-side in the sports theyāre involved in.
We talked through the doās and donāts, and I explained how a defibrillator talks you through each step of the process ā making it simple for anyone to use in an emergency. From there, we moved on to CPRĀ and activating the defibrillator in a real-life scenario.

At the start of the awareness session, response times ranged between 5 minutes 30 seconds to 6 minutes, which would give a patient around 40ā50% survival. By the end of the session, those times had dropped to an incredible 3 minutes 30 secondsĀ ā a remarkable improvement that could make all the difference in saving a life.
Every participant shared that they felt more confident and preparedĀ after taking part in the awareness session.
It was a pleasure to be part of the first day of the DurhamWorks Sports Programme, combining physical activity with essential life skills.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and to DurhamWorks for inviting MISSED A BEATĀ to be part of such an important initiative. š
