Brafferton Community centre training session

On Sunday 28th of February, MISSEDABEAT installed the 24/7 community defibrillator at the community centre at Brafferton Village Hall.

Mark from MISSEDABEAT agreed to arrange defibrillator user awareness training following the installation of the defibrillator, which is now available for the residents and the wider community.

Around 20 members of the Brafferton Community attended the training session. Mark from MISSEDABEAT and Jo from Community Spirit, Newton Aycliffe, teamed up and the training was a massive success.

Jo also covered the use of a EpiPen when someone has suffered allergies, especially food allergies. Times when you may have to use an EpiPen can be stressful, after Jo demonstrated how to handle and administrate the EpiPen the residents took part and demonstrated themselves. Marnie aged 9 loved taking part and injecting her mam !

Jo then moved onto what to do when someone is choking, firstly to encourage them to cough ask or support them to bend forwards and give them up to 5 back blows to try and dislodge the blockage. If they are still choking, give them up to 5 abdominal thrusts, hold them around the waist and pull inwards and upwards above the belly button. Mark was on hand to demonstrate this maneuverer with Jo.

Residents all stated they had a fantastic and informative morning learning lifesaving skills, and that they would feel more confident in crisis situations. Alex from the Brafferton Community Centre, who is also the guardian of the Community defibrillator thanked MISSEDABEAT Mark Preston and Community Spirit Jo Jones, for helping learn CPR and understanding how the new defibrillator work.

A great turn out, many thanks to all for attending. All the attending residents received certificates after the training from Jo Jones of Community Spirit.

Jo holds regular training awareness sessions which enable participants to learn the skills needed in crisis situations. Keep an eye out for the next session.

Mark from MISSEDABEAT would like to thank the residents who made donations on the day totalling a fantastic £53.67.
