MISSEDABEAT were proud to partner with Cornerstone Hub in Bishop Auckland to install a life-saving defibrillator and bleed control kit, helping to protect some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Cornerstone is a vital local charity providing support for individuals and families facing homelessness and hardship. Their hub offers essential services including food provision, showers, laundry facilities and one-to-one support—creating a safe and welcoming environment for those in need.
We were contacted by Nicky from Cornerstone following a cardiac arrest involving one of their clients. Thankfully, staff were able to access a defibrillator in time, but it was located around three minutes away—resulting in a six-minute round trip. In situations like this, every second counts.

MISSEDABEAT immediately stepped in to work alongside Cornerstone to install a defibrillator on-site, significantly reducing response times and helping to safeguard both service users and the wider community.
This project was also supported by Bishop Auckland Town Council, who kindly provided a £1,000 donation through their Community Fund Scheme, helping to make the installation possible.
We were honored to attend the official unveiling alongside the Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Councillor Sam Zair, who showed great support for the project and the importance of having accessible life-saving equipment within the community.
During the visit, a live check of nearby community defibrillators was carried out, which highlighted the ongoing need for maintenance and monitoring. Of the devices listed within the local area, three were shown as unavailable. Mark discussed this with Councillor Zair, who advised that he would look to gain further clarification as to why these devices were not accessible.
During our visit, we also met Bob and the Team, the therapeutic support dog, who calmly listened and observed as we spoke about the work MISSEDABEAT carries out. Bob plays an important role at the hub, offering comfort and support to those accessing the service, and perfectly reflects the caring and supportive environment Cornerstone provides.

Alongside the defibrillator, a bleed control kit has also been installed. Both are fully registered and linked with the emergency services, ensuring they can be accessed quickly in an emergency.

To help maintain the equipment going forward, a charity collection box has been placed inside the Cornerstone Hub shop. Donations will go directly towards replacement pads, batteries, and ultimately a replacement unit in the future—ensuring this life-saving device remains available for years to come.
At MISSEDABEAT, we believe that working in partnership with organizations like Cornerstone and local authorities is key to making our communities safer, stronger and better prepared for emergencies.
