At the weekend, we had the pleasure of meeting the Newton Aycliffe Juniors FC U9 Reds team and their dedicated coaches, Micheal and Charlotte, to present them with a portable defibrillator.
This moment was made possible thanks to Leo, one of the team’s young stars, who raised an impressive £744 in the Junior Great North Run 2024 for MISSEDABEAT charity.
Originally, we planned to install a defibrillator at Leo’s home with the money raised. But Leo was worried that his football team might need one more and expressed his feeling to his mam and dad who spoke to Mark from MISSEDABEAT
After hearing Leo's thoughtful request, we decided to donate a portable defibrillator to the team while still moving forward with plans to install a community defibrillator at Leo’s home.
The importance of having a defibrillator at sporting events cannot be overstated which has been recognized by the team:
“Every second counts.. Having a Defibrillator within our team gives us that safety net if anything was to happen to either the team/parents/opposition. It's beneficial for football teams to have this vital piece of equipment, it's the difference between life and death. The faster we react, the better the chances are of that individual surviving and having that second chance at life”
This was echoed by the parents, sharing their gratitude, saying: “Having a defibrillator at the games will alleviate a lot of worries on our families in our team. Having many health conditions myself it means so much that things like this are put place to help our children, supporters and families! MISSEDABEAT is an amazing charity to support and I hope many others will get involved donating to be able to equip many other teams, work places etc with these very important pieces of equipment!!”
“As a parent of a kid with Asthma, even controlled, having a defibrillator with the team brings me great peace of mind should the worst happen.”
“I think it's a wonderful thing what MISSEDABEAT are doing not just throughout football but out on the streets to, and with the fantastic effort Leo put in to raise funds for a defibrillator for the Redz fill me with pride. Hopefully it will be left to gather dust now.”
We wish the U9 Reds all the best for their upcoming matches & thank you Leo for being such an important part of the team.
