💛 MISSEDABEAT PROUD TO SUPPORT SIMON RAMSDEN'S INCREDIBLE FUNDRAISING EFFORT FOR THE FAMILY OF JOE THOMPSON 💛
Over the weekend of June 27th–29th, our great friend Simon Ramsden completed an unbelievable 37 hours of consecutive exercise classes in honour of his close friend and former teammate Joe Thompson, who sadly passed away earlier this year after bravely battling cancer.
Simon, who played alongside Joe in the late 2000s, set himself a target of £3,000 to help send Joe’s wife Chantelle and their daughters Lula and Athena on the holiday of a lifetime. In true Simon style, he absolutely smashed that goal – raising over £9,000 and counting. 🙌

The event even hit the headlines on Sky Sports News, with many of Simon’s former teammates and even his former manager Peter coming along to show their support. A huge testament to both Simon and Joe’s impact in the football world and beyond.

Joe’s journey inspired so many – from his battles with Hodgkin lymphoma in 2013 and again in 2017, to scoring the goal that kept Rochdale in League One in 2018. He was a true fighter on and off the pitch, but above all, a devoted husband and loving father.
Simon said it best:
“Joe was a special man – like no other. He’s been a special friend to me – something I will always treasure.”
One of Joe’s mantras was:
"Don’t live life to survive – live life to thrive."A message that Simon carried with him throughout this emotional and inspiring challenge.
I (Mark from MISSEDABEAT) had the honour of speaking with Chantelle, who shared her incredible courage and pride in everything Joe stood for. She told me that what Simon has done for their family is nothing short of amazing.
In a particularly touching moment, I was able to present Joe’s daughter Lula with Simon’s football shirt from nearly 20 years ago – a moment that brought smiles, pride, and emotion. Lula wore it with her head held high. 💙

Chantelle now hopes to carry on Joe’s legacy by starting a foundation in his name – something we at MISSEDABEAT will stand proudly behind.
At MISSEDABEAT, our mission is to support as many good causes as we can – and we are honoured to have been part of this remarkable event.
Simon – you’re one of a kind, a true inspiration, and a lifelong friend to us all. Keep doing what you do. We are all so incredibly proud of you.
