We’re delighted to share that an internal Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) has now been installed inside Butterfly World at Preston Park, Teesside — adding an important layer of safety for all visitors.

This came about when Mark from MISSEDABEAT was approached by his friend David Welsh, who suggested working together to provide a defibrillator in the tropical environment of Butterfly World. With the high temperatures and humidity needed to keep the butterflies and other animals comfortable, some visitors can occasionally feel overheated — making quick access to life-saving equipment essential.

After discussions, Mark delivered the AED to Butterfly World, and David kindly fitted the cabinet and signage at the entrance, making it clearly visible to everyone coming in. David has also taken on the important role of Guardian, ensuring the AED is regularly checked and always ready for use. The AED will be available during opening hours as part of the venue’s safety circuit.

Mark was joined by his granddaughter on the delivery day, taking time to enjoy the butterflies, meerkats, and other residents of this beautiful attraction.

Butterfly World has pledged to support MISSEDABEAT going forward, and Mark hopes the staff team will take part in awareness and confidence training — ensuring they’re ready to use the AED should an emergency arise.
