On Sunday 31st May, Mark Preston from MISSEDABEAT had the privilege of speaking with Gaby Roslin on the BBC's Make a Difference Show, sharing the story behind how MISSEDABEAT began and why the charity continues to work tirelessly to make communities safer.

MISSEDABEAT was founded following the devastating loss of a close friend and teammate, Daz, who tragically suffered a cardiac arrest. What started from one heartbreaking moment has grown into a charity that has helped fund and support almost 100 community defibrillators and over 100 portable defibrillators across communities, businesses, sports clubs and organisations from County Durham through to Birmingham.

During the interview, Mark spoke about the importance of early CPR, public access defibrillators and the work being carried out to ensure life-saving equipment is available when it is needed most.

A key part of the discussion focused on a growing concern surrounding the maintenance of community defibrillators.

Many people assume that because a defibrillator is mounted on a wall, it is ready to save a life. Unfortunately, through routine inspections and maintenance visits, MISSEDABEAT regularly discovers devices with expired pads, depleted batteries, damaged cabinets, incorrect location details or devices that are no longer registered correctly on The Circuit.

The reality is that a defibrillator can only save a life if it is available, accessible and emergency-ready when someone needs it.

❤️💙 Every defibrillator has a story. This is ours. Speaking with Gaby Roslin about how MISSEDABEAT began, the lives already impacted by our work, and why ensuring community defibrillators remain emergency-ready is more important than ever.

❤️ Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival.💙 Every community deserves access to an emergency-ready defibrillator.❤️ Every defibrillator should be checked and maintained regularly.💙 Every life matters.
