Community defibrillator installed in local housing estate, 80% cardiac arrest take place in people homes.

Ian and his son Harry, unveiling the community defibrillator.

Ian Simpson and his family have supported MISSEDABEAT and had a defibrillator installed at the house in Patenson Court Newton Aycliffe DL5 4XL, which is registered on the national circuit and is available during a medical emergency.

Ian is also taken on the guardianship role and will work with MISSEDABEAT ensuring that the defibrillator is ready for use during emergencies.

Ian and his family decided to support the charity after a defibrillator was used to help save a family members life. This is something that is close to Ian and all his families hearts, and makes you think how important these life saving devices are.

Ian feels it is important to reach out and help the local community. The closest defibrillator is located in Bluestone Close, which is 400 metres from Patenson Close. This might not seem far but making this journey by foot, would take some time (every minute lost reduces the chances of survival by 10%). Ian made the decision to reach out to Mark and run a raffle, to raise funds to install one to the side of his house, for the local community should they need it.

MISSEDABEAT hopes that they can reduce the time that it takes to access any defibrillator within Newton Aycliffe to around 500 metres. The routes/roads also need to be taken into account as this can also increase the time taken to access community defibrillators.

MISSEDABEAT are looking at other locations around the town, and will be reaching out to householders in the hope that they work with MISSEDABEAT to install more community defibrillator around the local area.

Ian was able to raise £1000 after raffling a signed Jurgen Klopp shirt that MISSEDABEAT were fortunate to get, after a recent visit to Liverpool.

Ian would like to thank Mark and everyone who kindly donated and made this possible. Aycliffe as a community always pulled together.
